United Democratic Alliance (UDA) secretary general, Cleophas Malala, on Tuesday, March 21, claimed that there were ongoing talks with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's allies in search of a truce with President William Ruto.

During an interview on Citizen TV, the UDA party official alleged that some of Raila's allies had approached them to push Ruto to agree to the opposition's demands.

He noted that many of Raila's lieutenants were not privy to the conversations. The SG, however, did not reveal the identities of the parties engaged in the talks.

Malala claimed Azimio was seeking a way out of the current stalemate as they realised that Ruto would not easily give in to their demands.

"There is a high level of conversation behind the scenes. These people are coming to us, begging and asking us not to embarrass them.

"Azimio is telling us that they have an exit strategy and that we should agree to their demands. They are unable to come out of this quagmire," he stated.

However, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina - who was appearing alongside Malala for the interview - refuted the claims adding that they were not interested in a handshake with the government.

"Absolutely not true. I am the Minority Whip of the Senate and I can tell you that we are speaking for many Kenyans. Our brothers who are in bed with the government should proceed. We are with Kenyans,"  the Senator responded.

On the other hand, Malala expressed confidence over the failure of the Azimio demonstrations as he added that some of Raila's allies were also engaging the government behind Raila's back.

He stated that the names of politicians engaging with the government secretly would soon be publicised.

"I was with Ledama at Uhuru Park swearing in Raila. Little did we know that there was a handshake. I want to tell him that he is alone," Malala countered.

Malala also dared the opposition to call off their boycott strategy, noting that they could also ask their supporters to boycott products and services associated with Azimio leaders.

"Let me tell them, you cannot throw stones when you are living in a glass house. We also have companies which we can resist," the SG stated.

Raila, on Tuesday, March 21, asked his followers to boycott a telco, a bank and a media house and also declared protests every Thursday and Monday.
