“The unique element of this is that it will not be focused on sports alone, it will also set up education institution where children can learn as well as do sports,” Wanga revealed the endless benefits of the upcoming project.

Wanga, while appreciating the Austrian Government for bankrolling the project, remarked on her excitement that Homa Bay was selected as the hub for such a premier project.

“The Austrian Government has scouted many regions in our county and finally settled in Ndhiwa Sub-County,” she explained.

On the input of her government, she explained, “We have provided 20 acres of land on which the project will be set up.”

In his speech, Austrian Ambassador to Kenya Christian Fellner revealed that the project was more of a partnership than an aid.

“Kenya is a young country and it should look in particular at young people because they are the future.

“If we take care of them through the sports academy, they are going to have goals in their lives,” Fellner explained why Austria agreed on the partnership.

Acakoro Football Academy General Manager Luka Mott revealed that in the final phase of the project, the academy will boast four playing fields.

“Right now on phase one, we will start with two football fields, six to eight classrooms for primary school,” he explained.

In the second phase, the Austrian Government would add more classrooms for a secondary school.

Other amenities will include; staff quarters, dormitories for the students, a pavilion for the community and a health centre.
