Motorists plying the Lower Kabete Road at the Spring Valley roundabout will experience traffic disruption from Saturday, March 25, at 6:00 am to Tuesday, March 28, at 6:00 am.

In a notice to the public dated Wednesday, March 22, Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) revealed that the four-day period would allow the installation of a cross culvert along the roundabout.

KURA advised motorists to drive with caution as they approached the section and to follow the respective road signs provided.

Due to the traffic disruptions, motorists travelling from Lower Kabete road heading to Sarit Centre were directed to use one lane.

In addition, motorists plying Shanzu Road to Lower Kabete Road were still advised to use the one-way lane heading along Spring Valley Business park.

Those heading from the Kitisuru area to Sarit Centre, however, will not be affected by the traffic disruption.

KURA affirmed that traffic marshals and police would be on site to enable a smooth flow of traffic.

"We apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused as we endeavour to enhance urban mobility," the notice read in part.

A cross culvert is a tunnel that carries a stream under a road or railway. This allows water that isn't confined to a stream channel to move from one side of the road to the other without crossing the surface.

Motorists plying the route had initially lamented about the poor road situation with some complaining of a burst pipe along the roundabout.

"Bumper-to-bumper traffic on Lower Kabete Road from Ngecha Road towards Spring Valley, leading to build-up on Redhill Link Road towards Waiyaki Way, at the Loresho Ridge / Lower Kabete Road exit.

"We are along the lower Kabete road and wondering why there is so much traffic towards Westlands?" read some of the previous posts from motorists online

Established by the Kenya Roads Acts, 2007, KURA is tasked with the management, development, maintenance and rehabilitation of National Trunk Roads along urban areas.
