Two videos went viral on various social media platforms on Wednesday, March 22, insinuating that Julius Malema, leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), warned Raila Odinga over holding weekly anti-government protests.

Kenyans.co.ke, established that the videos shared widely on various social media platforms were old.

In one of the videos, Malema was captured wearing a red cap while advising Raila to accept the August 9 poll results and move on. He spoke at a joint press briefing of South Africa's opposition parties on Tuesday, August 16.

“I think it is time for him to throw in the towel and try a different candidate. Perhaps there could be a different outcome. This is the fifth time, it can’t be done beyond this; he needs to accept and move on,” Malema stated in the first video.

"With highly contested elections, and with such a very close outcome, you are likely to have people who are not satisfied. It comes with the nature of the game," he added.

The South African opposition leader released the statement after the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) then-chairperson Wafula Chebukati declared Ruto President-elect.

In a separate video which went viral, Malema issued another statement on Wednesday, August 24, after Azimio la Umoja filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging Ruto's win.

Malema wore a black jacket and shirt with his background bearing the Economic Freedom Fighters' banner.

"We call on Raila Odinga to accept election outcome and not form part of traditional of causing instability and uncertainty on African governments," Malema indicated.

"Odinga must humble himself and form part of the government and address the challenges confronting the people of Kenya and not allow history to remember him as an individual who was desperate for power," Malema advised the former Prime Minister.

However, Kenyans.co.ke established that all the videos were old and sentiments shared by Malema were highlighted at the height of the August 9 Presidential Election.

Nonetheless, both leaders staged anti-regime protests on Monday, March 20, calling their respective governments over the high cost of living, among other issues.

In Kenya, Raila announced that the opposition would hold protests on Mondays and Thursdays.

"In response to public demand, we shall now hold protests every Thursday and Monday beginning next week," he announced.
