It was a blissful moment when Billionaire Manu Chandaria on Wednesday, March 22, awarded a group of 20 police officers in Nairobi for their selflessness.

Among the police officers who were awarded was Job Oyagi Kiere, an officer who returned Ksh450,000 back to the owner.

The Maungu-based Police Inspector, on December 26, 2021, returned the money to a family involved in an accident at Ndara area along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

It was reported that Timothy Njuguna and his wife Martha Muthoni lost the money after being involved in an accident along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway during the festive season celebrations.

Maungu police officer in charge of the traffic department, Inspector Oyagi, noted that the money was recovered when rescuers moved in to pull the family out of the wreckage.

The police officer who recovered the money had to fend off a group of witnesses who attempted to rob the victims involved in the crash.

A total of 20 police officers were awarded the Chandaria Bravery Award, which is an annual award that the foundation, which is run by the billionaire, honours brave police officers with.

Other officers who benefited from the award included Silvester Mwabaya for his humanitarian nature that saw him save a life of a fellow Officer from committing suicide with a firearm at NPC-Main Campus Kiganjo, and Constable Driver Nickson Kiplangat from GSU who sustained a gunshot attack from bandits in Kapedo, that led to the amputation of his hand.

While giving the awards, the Billionaire acknowledged the effort made by the police in protecting society, especially businesses and maintaining law and order.

Through his Chandaria Foundation, the businessman revealed that he will continue to reward security officers who go the extra mile to make the country safe and secure.

He also urged the officers to take care of each other, especially, on issues relating to mental health which had led to the death of many in the National Police Service.

The National Police Service recognised Chandaria's input in ensuring that police officers are well encouraged to perform their duties of enforcing the law and maintaining order.

"Dr Manu Chandaria Foundation recognises the work and bravery demonstrated by police officers as they dispense their duties," read a statement from the National Police Service.
