Alice Wahome's Daughter Working as Doctor, Following Father's Footsteps

Water Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alice Muthoni Wahome is a renowned politician, having served as the Kandara Member of Parliament.

However, her second-born daughter Nyawira Wahome Ngayu took a different path from her mother. She followed in her father Godfrey Wahome Ngayu's footsteps and pursued medicine.

Nyawira works at the Nazareth hospital in Kiambu county as a medical officer, after joining its Paediatrics department in 2015. 

Before joining the facility, she worked as a medical officer at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in South Africa in the intensive care Unit, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology departments.

Nyawira also interned at the Kenyatta National Hospital and the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. 

The medic holds two bachelor's degrees and a master's from universities in Kenya and abroad.

During her graduation in 2021 from the University of Nairobi (UoN), her mother, Alice Wahome, praised her for her outstanding performance. She graduated with a Master's in Medicine- Obstetrics and Gynecology.

 

"As a woman leader who believes that there are equal opportunities for both the boy and the girl child, I can say that you’ve really done us proud and you’ve set a great example. God bless you in your future endeavors Nyawira," the CS stated. 

Wahome also encouraged all girls who dream of conquering the world, adding that there are no limits.

Nyawira also graduated from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, with two bachelor's degrees - Medicine and Science (Physiology and Psychology). 

In a past interview, CS Alice Wahome disclosed that her family supported her in her political career, adding that her husband was the most encouraging person.

On her part, Nyawira concurred, adding, "We knew her desire was in politics and so we constantly remind her to go for it."
