The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Friday, March 23, cautioned motorists over a traffic snarl-up along the Nairobi - Nakuru Highway that had been occasioned by accident.
In a statement, the road agency indicated that an accident involving and trailer and two other vehicles had occurred around Gilgil at the Morendat Junction in the wee hours of the night of Thursday, March 22.
KeNHA advised motorists to exercise caution and avoid overlapping, which would worsen the situation.
Motorists were also assured that the authority addressed the matter promptly in conjunction with security agencies.
During the Thursday night accident, all motorists and passengers escaped the incident unharmed.
"The vehicles have currently been moved from the carriageway. As a result of the incident, there developed some traffic buildup. This subsequently brought about overlapping, which led to traffic from Gilgil towards Naivasha, blocked
"Police are currently on the section helping to manage traffic. KeNHA urges motorists to respect traffic police instructions and avoid overlapping as they clear the congestion," read the statement in part.
On the other hand, the authority also cautioned Kenyans on a number of roads that had been affected by the ongoing long rains.
Some affected roads included the Iten-Kabarnet Road which was completely blocked by debris that was swept onto the road during the rains.
Motorists seeking to ply the route were advised to use alternative routes following the incident.
"The KeNHA Performance-Based Contractors (PBC) for the road have mobilised machines to remove the debris, an exercise that is currently ongoing. The exercise has, however, been slightly hampered by the ongoing rainfall and the near-zero visibility from Iten to Kabarnet.
"Those who can, may use alternative routes through Eldoret-Nyaru-Emsea-Kabarnet or Eldoret-Ravine-Kabarnet," the road agency advised.
