Kimani Ichung'wah, the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly, on Friday, March 24, disclosed that his father helped Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu secure a promotion in government.

Ichung'wah stated that his father approached the former Assistant Minister Ole Tipis, who helped Machogu earn a promotion from District Officer to District Commissioner in Kikuyu.

According to the Kikuyu Member of Parliament, Machogu befriended his father, who had close ties to former late President Daniel Arap Moi's administration, to help him push for his promotion.

At that time, CS Machogu was a fresh graduate.

"I knew CS Machogu at the age of eight, I was in class three. At that time, he was District Officer (D.O) in Kikuyu and he was a fresh graduate," Ichung'wah stated.

"Machogu befriended my father and my father had close ties with former late President Daniel Moi's administration. My father helped Machogu through the then assistant Ole Tipis to earn a promotion to become a District Commissioner," he added.

At that time, Ichung'wah was in class three and used that opportunity to establish ties with Machogu.

Machogu graduated from Nairobi University in 1979 and was immediately deployed as a civil servant, serving as a district officer in Nyeri, Nyandarua, Kiambu, and Kirinyaga, before being promoted to a district commissioner, with postings in Nyandarua and Busia.

He later served as Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Coast province.

Machogu also held different government positions including in Public Service, Commerce and Trade, before retiring in October 2016.

The former Nyaribari Chache MP contested for the Kisii Gubernatorial seat but lost to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Simba Arati.

President William Ruto, however, appointed him as Education Cabinet Secretary.

During the vetting process, Machogu placed his net worth at Ksh590 million and listed his buildings and apartments in Nairobi and Mombasa as well as parcels of land in Kisii.
