President William Ruto toured Raila Odinga’s backyard in Nyanza from Thursday, March 23 to Saturday, March 25, in an effort to make inroads in a region that has predominantly supported the Azimio leader.
In what was his fourth visit to the region in seven months, the Head of State launched 9 key projects in Kisii, Nyamira and Migori Counties.
Kisii County was the largest recipient of Ruto’s goodies after Ruto launched 5 key projects in the region.
The President started his Nyanza tour by commissioning Kisii National Polytechnic Digital Empowerment Centre in Kisii County.
“The Government will upgrade Technical and Vocation Institutions (TVET) into digital hubs by equipping them with computers to empower students with the digital skills they need to navigate and succeed in a digital jobs market.
“We will also hire an additional 2,000 tutors to support learning in TVET institutions across the country,” the President stated during the launch of the centre.
To make sure the county has clean water, the President launched Kegati Water Treatment Plant.
To promote road infrastructure in Kisii County, the President launched the upgrading to bitumen standard of Gekano-Rigoma-Amabuko, Ngenyi-Manga-Motemumwamu, Gekano-Girango and Gekano-Muturmesi-Birongo roads.
“We are constructing, rehabilitating and upgrading road networks across the country in appreciation that good infrastructure eases the movement of goods and services besides opening up rural areas for more trade and business,” he explained the need for the upgrade.
In Nyamira County, Ruto announced that The National Government and Nyamira County would construct 10,000 affordable houses that will create thousands of jobs for the youth in Sironga.
Lastly, the President launched two infrastructural projects in the Kuria region of Migori County.
Ruto commissioned Senta - Nyamtiro - Isebania road (Phase I) in Kuria East and Nyabohanse - Kumumwamu Road in Kuria West all in Migori County.
Speaking on the development projects in Nyanza, the President remarked, “We are committed to working for the development of Kenya. We will not leave out any region or group from our development agenda because we believe a united and focused country has a better chance of overcoming the challenges we face today and building a better tomorrow.”
