The Ministry of Education on Tuesday, March 28, announced a competition for designing the Open University of Kenya (OUK) logo.
In a notice, the State Department for Higher Education urged all who sought to participate in the competition to capture the university colours; gold, teal and white.
The creatives were called upon to submit their designs in sealed envelopes before Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
Prices unveiled for the winners included Ksh300,000 for the winner, Ksh200,000 for the first runner-up, and Ksh100,000 for the second runner-up.
"The State Department for Higher Education intends to design the University logo, whose composition will capture its mandate as the University's primary visual communication tool."
"The State Department is inviting creative Kenyan minds to come up with a suitable University logo, which clearly captures OUK colours. The logo design competition is open to all individuals within Kenya," the statement read in part.
While issuing the guidelines, the Ministry affirmed that the logo width must be less than 1.75 inches and 170 pixels in digital format. No maximum width is specified.
Logo designs must also be easily resized and ought to look great in black and white as well as in colour. The final version should be suitable for high-quality printing.
Eligible candidates should not submit more than two items. In a breakdown; the design is expected to be in black and white on six hard copies on A4 size paper, should consist of high-resolution colour in six hard copies on A4 size paper and in printable soft copy in PDF or JPEG in a Microsoft Windows readable pen drive.
The designs should be accompanied by a brief written description of all applied features, connotations and significant inspiration.
Applicants were directed to provide their full names, postal, physical, email addresses and daytime numbers.
How to Participate
The designs should be delivered in sealed envelopes clearly marked 'Open University of Kenya Logo Design Competition' to the Principal Secretary for Higher Education's official address.
Applicants are directed to drop the envelopes in the tender box situated at Jogoo House 'B' 9th Floor, Nairobi.
The Open University of Kenya is part of the government's plans to offer affordable courses online and subsequently improve access to tertiary education in the country.
