Former President Uhuru Kenyatta's family farm - Northlands Project - was invaded by non-locals hours after holding a meeting with unnamed leaders, according to locals who spoke on the matter on Tuesday, March 28.

Speaking to the media, former Ruiru deputy mayor, Peter Mwaura, disclosed that the goons were transported from Ruai - a sub-county in Nairobi.

According to the locals, the goons held a meeting with the leaders at the Ruai Sewer Plant before making their way to the property located in Kiambu County.

The goons had reportedly been promised parcels of land when they were ferried to a hotel that is located near the farm.

After being dropped at the hotel, the majority of the armed goons walked on foot to the farm where they cut down trees and stole 1,400 heads of sheep valued approximately at Ksh70 million.

Notably, Mwaura expressed shock over the response of the police and the lack of officers manning the property. He noted the incident seemed unusual to them.

"Ordinarily, if you attempt to step into that land, more than 10 police officers come there. We have Gatongora, Ruiru, and Ruai police Stations but the police were not there. It seemed weird to us," he stated.

The mayor also noted that the locals were still living in fear after the incident and were unsure whether the goons would return.

Additionally, after visiting the farm, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga echoed Mwaura's recollection of events indicating that he had talked with witnesses and representatives at the farm.

"We have been told by the locals that the plan was to invade and stay on the land. We have been able to see a sample of the allocation documents that had already been made.

"It is no coincidence that the police were not there when the goons came," Raila stated.

The Northlands farm was invaded by an unknown number of youth during the Azimio demonstrations on March 27. A fire also broke out on a section of the farm later that evening.

Notably, police visited the scene on Tuesday morning with the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome maintaining that they acted swiftly to address the raid.

"We also received reports of the invasion and destruction of a farm in Kiambu County. Relatedly to which Our Officers responded swiftly and prevented further crimes," he stated.
