Police officers were also at the scene of the accident to assess the situation and control traffic flow.

Following the accident, many were quick to point fingers at the drivers who seemingly 'put' the co-driver in harm's way. However, the allegations were refuted by others who noted that accidents are unpredictable.

On the other hand, some emphasised that both drivers ought to be careful on the road to avoid such incidences.

"I urge Kenyans to understand the lanes, points of impact, and other circumstances around accidents before making hasty conclusions," one opined.

Conclusively, Kenyans called upon police officers to adhere to traffic laws and lead as an example to motorists on the road.

Motorists were urged to exercise caution while on the road to avoid fatalities.

According to data released on March 23 by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the number of fatalities has reduced by 4.6 per cent in March 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.

In 2022 the number of fatalities involving pedestrians, pillion passengers, and cyclists reported was 1,021 while in 2023, the number dropped to 974.

"The 4.6 per cent drop is mainly attributed to increased public education and awareness through the government road safety mainstreaming program," NTSA detailed.
