Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday, March 29, advised the Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung'wah to remain steadfast despite facing heavy criticism following his remarks on the invasion of former President Uhuru Kenyatta's Northlands property.
Speaking at Kangocho Secondary School in Mathira, Nyeri County, Gachagua touted Ichung'wah to be the next political kingpin from Mt Kenya after him.
He added that Ichungwah's role ought to be uniting the Mt Kenya people and lobbying for the region's development.
"I want to say to the Azimio people that you are being used to fight Mt Kenya. The outgoing president did not want any single leader to emerge from this region. Now I see they told Azimio to beat Ichung'wah.
"I want to tell Ichung'wah to remain steadfast and firm. Kimani, as the second senior leader after me in this region, you have a responsibility to unite all the people in this region without fear," Gachagua noted.
The DP also sent a message to former president Uhuru Kenyatta and the Azimio brigade, noting that the rich should also be mindful of other people's property during demonstrations.
"The government has made adequate arrangements to protect the life and property of the rich and powerful equally."
"We want to ask the rich, getting property is a difficult thing. You may demean this property but it's not easy. As you plan for tomorrow, know that government will protect life and property," Gachagua stated.
The Deputy President reiterated his stance that the government would protect everyone's properties equally. He also advised the opposition to take a page out of Uhuru's book who, according to Gachagua, was unable to defy them.
"If they (Azimio) want to know who we are, ask Uhuru he knows us very well. He tried to fight us when he was president but it was not possible."
" I don't know how you can fight us when you are outside the government," he stated.
While presenting a bus to the High School, Gachagua also promised a Ksh200,000 party for the students, while donating Ksh100,000 to the teachers in the institution.
"Do you want a party? I will give Ksh200,000 for the students to enjoy themselves and Ksh100,000 to motivate the teachers," the DP noted.
