The Kenya Red Cross on Wednesday, March 29, sought to set the record straight over allegations that their ambulances will be used by police officers during Azimio la Umoja protests.
In a statement that was shared by Ahmed Idris, the Head of Policy and Advocacy, the Kenya Red Cross explained that some online users were maliciously sharing information that was not accurate.
"Our attention has been drawn to a message circulating on social media alleging a plan to interfere with planned demonstrations using essential service vehicles including those of the Kenya Red Cross Society (Red Cross).
"The message is false, misleading and deeply concerning. The Red Cross emblem are protected emblems and are to be used exclusively for humanitarian activities," read Kenya Red Cross statements.
The humanitarian organisation noted that they do not accommodate or facilitate police officers during such protests.
Kenya Red Cross also stated that it is, however, part of their responsibility to take care of anyone who is in need of emergency medical services.
"Red Cross and Red Crescent movement vehicles do not carry arms or any armed persons and are used only by the staff and volunteers of the organisation, while providing essential humanitarian services including lifesaving interventions," read part of the statement.
However, Kenya Red Cross assured that it will continue to offer services without any fear or favour to anyone.
According to Kenya Red Cross, their mandate and responsibilities are to the country and the people who need emergency medical services.
The humanitarian organisation also condemned vile attempts to carry out smear campaigns against it, noting that it's an essential service provider to all Kenyans.
"We will continue to provide impartial and neutral services including treatment and evacuation of the injured and sick.
"The injured and the sick must receive the medical care they need to the fullest extent possible," Kenya Red Cross noted.
The organisation asked Kenyans to share their concerns and report any imposters that may want to taint the image of the humanitarian essential service provider.
"We call on all Kenyans to continue supporting the work of all humanitarian and medical personnel by granting safe access and facilitating movement of vehicles and personnel.
"To report an emergency please call our 24 hour emergency hotline 1199," Kenya Red Cross urged.
