The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) announced that it was suspending all Commuter Rail Service trains on its Nairobi routes scheduled for Thursday, March 30.
In a statement on Wednesday, March 29, the corporation noted that the train service would not be operational throughout the day.
According to Kenya Railways, the suspension was due to unavoidable circumstances.
“We wish to inform our customers that due to unavoidable circumstances, commuter train services scheduled for March 30, have been suspended.
“We do sincerely apologise to all our esteemed customers for any inconvenience caused,” the statement read in part.
At the same time, the corporation clarified that the Madaraka Express trains serving the Nairobi - Mombasa and Nairobi - Suswa routes would be in operation as usual.
“All Madaraka Express link trains between Nairobi Central Station and the Nairobi Terminus will, however, run as scheduled,” added the statement.
The commuter train serves five estates across Nairobi and its environs, operating on a fixed schedule across Nairobi.
Nairobi estates affected by the suspension include rail service trains to and from Ruiru, Embakasi Village, Syokimau, Kahawa West, and the Kikuyu station linking the towns to Nairobi CBD.
This is the second suspension of the train services after it halted operations on Monday, March 27, occasioned by Azimio protests, with Nairobi being the hardest hit.
Kenya Railways announced the resumption of services later in the day after the protests adding that the services would continue as indicated in the normal schedule.
The announcement came ahead of the Azimo demonstrations slated for Thursday, March 30.
