Forensic evidence in the murder case of Monica Kimani was used to seal the fate of former Citizen TV anchor Jacque Maribe and Joseph Irungu on Wednesday, March 29 after the court determined that the duo have a case to answer
In a statement by the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (ODPP), it was detailed that the prosecution presented a forensic analysis that determined that Jowie was at Monica's house on the fateful night of September 19, 2018.
Further, the prosecution proved that its witnesses in the case had corroborated the forensic evidence that was presented before Justice Grace Nzioka.
According to the ODPP, other pieces of evidence were collected from separate scenes and presented in court.
"Prosecution's Catherine Mwaniki and Wangui Gichuhi presented witnesses who took the court through exhibits collected by investigators from the scenes of crime that showed that the two jointly participated in the murder of Monica Kimani in 2018.
"Forensic evidence collected and analyzed showed that Jowie left Monica's premise on the night of the incident, which evidence was corroborated by the prosecution witnesses," read the statement in part.
The duo's legal team will give their account of events during the defense hearings scheduled to take place between May 11 and May 12.
Maribe's legal team is scheduled to present four witnesses while Jowie will have one witness.
Justice Nzioka determined that the prosecution had convinced the court with the evidence produced before it.
“I am satisfied that the prosecution has adduced evidence requiring to put each of the two accused persons on their defence,” she determined.
During the case that began in 2018, the prosecution presented over 44 witnesses.
Monica's residence in Kilimani was also visited by the judge and the legal teams during the hearings.
Jowie and Maribe are accused of allegedly taking part in the murder of Monica Kimani. The businesswoman was found murdered at her apartment in Kilimani on September 19, 2018.
The court will on Friday, January 26, issue a judgement on the murder case. Irungu and Maribe may be released or be sentenced if found guilty.
