Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing'Oei was on Thursday, March 30, appointed to the board of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (the Global Partnership).
SingOei joins former Minister of Environment of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Amina Mohammed who chairs the board and is also the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General.
“We would be honoured if you would consider an invitation to join the Board for 2023-25, a crucial period for ensuring data is at the heart of delivering the SDGs and developing the next 5-year strategy of the Global Partnership,” the Global Partnership wrote to the Foreign Affairs PS.
The organisation was optimistic that Sing'Oei was the best fit for that position.
“Your personal experience and expertise would add a tremendous value to the perspectives of the Board, and the continued high-level involvement of the government of Kenya is critical to driving progress on data across the region and beyond,” he was lauded.
The experienced diplomat revealed that he was honoured by the appointment and that he would strive to help the organisation attain its objectives.
“Delighted to be invited to the Board of the Global Partnership on Sustainable Development Data and I look forward to elevating Africa’s voice on this important platform.
“Data diplomacy in view of government digitisation focus,” Dr Sing'Oei remarked in his acceptance speech.
Before being appointed as PS, SingOei served as President William Ruto’s legal advisor where he provided counsel on Intergovernmental relations.
Global Partnership was founded in 2015 under the recommendation of the UN Secretary General's Independent Expert Advisory Group on the Data Revolution for Sustainable Development in the report 'A World That Counts'.
The Global organisation aims to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals with effective data to drive good decisions.
Other Kenyans who have served in the Board include the late Bob Collymore, CEO of Safaricom, and the late Ambassador Ken Osinde who served as President William Ruto’s Chief of Staff.
Former Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo also served for one term on the Global Partnership Board.
