Following his appointment, the ex-CS became the third member of Uhuru's second cabinet to land a government job.

He joins Simon Chelugui, who retained his position as a CS, and former Energy CS Monica Juma, who was appointed the president's national security advisor.

Notably, Mohamed contested in the 2022 General Election for the Mandera Gubernatorial seat.

The long-term ally of Uhuru vied on a Jubilee party ticket and lost to Mohamed Adan Khalif.

On the other hand, Ruto also announced other appointments, including Former Wajir West MP Mohamed Ahmed Kolosh, who was appointed as a member of the Kenya Roads Board.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (1) (a) of the Kenya Roads Board Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint Ahmed Kolosh Mohamed to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 5th April 2023,” read the notice in part.
