Lang'ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor Jalang'o on Saturday, April 8 revealed that he had enrolled for piloting classes.

Jalang'o confirmed that he was attending classes at one of the flying schools at Wilson Airport to fulfill his childhood dream of being a pilot.

He cunningly used flight jargon and listed some of his classmates to demonstrate and corroborate his claims, adding that he would be licensed soon.

"I just need a private pilot license. One day you will see a plane approaching the airport and it will be my voice asking the control towers for permission to land," Jalang'o chided.

The lawmaker explained that he kept his schooling under wraps to avoid criticism from the community given that he held a public office.

"DJ Joe Mfalme is in class, I am also in class, but I have never shared photos because people will start claiming that I am using public money which is not true," he clarified.

The entire piloting course costs about Ksh2.5 million. However, the legislator will cough out between Ksh600,000- Ksh800,000 to obtain a PPL.

Owing to past experience with the media, the Lang'ata MP stated that he continued protecting his family from the public eye, especially his children.

"I do not want to be tagged to my name or current occupation so that they are given preferential treatment. They wake up early and use the bus like other children," he noted.

Jalang'o disclosed that his life had changed a great deal since he became an MP, adding that he was subjected to public scrutiny over activities he engaged in freely before joining politics.

He clarified that he used his own money to fund his leisure, adding that swindling money from the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) was nearly impossible.

"The MP is not even a signatory in the CDF account. Secondly, there is a board that runs that money and a separate board that managed the various projects," he noted.

Speaking on the current tiff with his party, ODM, Jalang'o maintained that he took the right stand to work with President William Ruto because he had to serve the people of Lang'ata first.

Moreover, he added that he was willing to serve one term if the decision meant that he would lose the backing of the party in 2027.
