Homicide detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are probing the murder of a prominent businessman who was found dead in his home in the South C area, Nairobi on Saturday morning, April 15.
Reports indicated that Imran Ismail, a 40-year-old accountant at a Nairobi-based firm, was shot twice in the head while sleeping in his home in Midlands Estate at around 2:00 am.
Imenti North Member of Parliament Rahim Dawood, a cousin to the deceased, noted that Imran's mother and siblings were in the house at the time of the incident.
He added that they heard gunshots and upon rushing to the businessman's room, the attacker had escaped.
"We do not understand the motive. Gunshots were heard and he was shot twice. The murder weapon is yet to be recovered," Dawood, who also acts as the family spokesperson, stated.
Dawood suspected that the assassin gained access to the balcony of Imran's room which he occasionally left open. The legislator wondered how the suspects accessed the house which has over 16 CCTV cameras.
"The balcony door of Imran's room was left open. He usually left it open so we don't know whether it was the entry point," Dawood noted.
On Saturday morning, DCI detectives collected crucial evidence of the murder. The mother and the siblings also recorded statements at the Lang'ata police station.
"Homicide detectives will investigate. The house consists of over 16 CCTV cameras. They have also retrieved phones belonging to those who were at the house at the time," the MP noted.
The body of the deceased was moved to Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home, Nairobi for postmortem examination.
The incident compounds the daring attempts by perpetrators attempting to gain entry into areas considered the most guarded.
On January 29, 2023, two robbers jumped over a perimeter wall into Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi's Karen home and stole a TV set and a gas cylinder.
A month later, armed men raided Public Service CS Aisha Jumwa's Loresho-based home and made away with Ksh1.1 million in cash.
