Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday, April 19, scoffed at threats by Azimio la Umoja Chief Raila Odinga to file a case against him at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Speaking during the opening of the Deputy Governors' Consultative meeting, Gachagua argued that he was only defending his boss, President William Ruto.

He reaffirmed that he was ready to take the bullet for Ruto, whose government was under attack by the opposition.

"These Azimio characters are threatening to report me at the Hague. I do not know how defending your boss can be a crime against humanity"

"I think they have lost their heads. If they send the letter there, it will be returned to the sender because they do not seem to understand how the ICC works," Gachagua remarked

The DP made the comments with respect to the disquiet between a number of deputy governors and the county chiefs.

He advised them against publicly confronting their bosses stating that it caused a lack of confidence in the county government.

Gachagua further drew parallels between the county leadership to marriage, where disagreements were normal and bound to happen.

"Marriage is like a plane. The taking off is rocky, but once it gets airborne, it stabilises and the problem resurfaces during the landing," he stated.

On the other hand, the Second in Command called on governors not to sideline their deputies and publicly assign them roles within the devolved governments.

He argued that in any case, they would take the credit if their deputies delivered on the roles they assigned them.

His sentiments were reiterated by host Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff who called upon the deputies not to air their dirty linen in public.

"Those in front of us with the little red lights in the top will never pick up anything else except your dirty linen. Anything that will be able to ensure that space is sold and airtime is received with a lot of shocks will be picked," Sheriff stated.
