Azimio Kenya and Kenya Kwanza Alliance bipartisan teams failed to reach a consensus on pertinent issues as the discussions began in Nairobi on Thursday, April 20.

The Raila Odinga-led wing in the National Assembly stated that they had raised concerns over the composition of negotiators representing President William Ruto.

Speaking after the meeting, Minority Leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi objected to the inclusion of Eldas Member of Parliament Aden Keynan in the committee.

"We clearly stated that Hon. Keynan is a member of the Jubilee Party, which is an affiliate of the Azimio la Umoja, as such, we found it unethical for the Kenya Kwanza team to appoint him to the committee," Wandayi stated.

Wandayi noted that President William  and Azimio leader Raila Odinga will be involved in order to end the political impasse.

"We will be referring the issues raised to our leadership so that we may break the stalemate," Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi stated.

Meanwhile, Wandayi stated that the two teams had every reason to begin talks informally without necessarily being organised in committee forms.

"We will allow the two negotiation teams to begin engaging informally in order for them to explore terms of reference for the bipartisan talks."

"Should they disagree on any issue, they need to return to us for further discussion and agreements," Wandayi stated.

The Kenya Kwanza team also raised issues on the composition of Ruto's team, calling out Azimio for the inclusion of Pokot South Member of Parliament David Pkosing.

"It is true that we have hit a stalemate over the composition of the committee, and we will be resolving the matter," Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah.

Ichung'wah also asked Azimio leaders to exercise restraint even as they seek to have their issues resolved, noting that the leadership of both coalitions should seek peace.

The MPs also resolved the issue of the leadership of both teams that will be involved in the bipartisan talks.

"It is now clear that the issue of the leadership of the two teams that will be leading this process has been settled.

"The Azimio la Umoja team will be led by Lawyer Otiende Amollo while the Kenya Kwanza side will be led by Gitonga Murugara," Wandayi revealed.
