A commotion ensued in the Nyamache area of Kisii County on Friday, April 21, after a man who had reportedly died returned home after 40 days.

According to the family members, the boda boda rider went missing for a while, with a body resembling his found later.

However, the rider was detained at the Industrial Area prison for flaunting traffic rules in Nairob's South B. Reports indicated that he served a 40-day sentence after he was arraigned in court.

After his release, the rider headed home only to be barred from entering the homestead since someone else had been buried in his name.

On the other hand, after learning their kin was alive, they were forced to exhume the buried body, which was transferred to the City Mortuary.

Police officers oversaw the exhumation process, which took about three hours, and transported the body back to Nairobi County.

"The exhumation process began at around 4 am, and police officers were in the area to help," the rider's uncle noted.

Furthermore, the family members performed several rituals before the rider could be allowed back home.

Some of the rituals performed were burning the casket, slaughtering a sheep, and burying some of its part in the grave, among others, as part of the Abagusii traditions.

"Plans are underway to build the rider a new home since he can not live in his old one. All the items in his house will be burnt," his uncle added.

However, the rider was advised to start a new life at the homestead as the elders destroyed his belongings as part of the burial ritual.

South B locals who contributed to his burial also demanded to be refunded upon learning he was alive.

The residents reportedly stormed the area police station, pressuring the duty officer to clarify the incident.
