A businessman from Litein town, Kericho County, on Saturday, April 22, accused police officers of lacklustre performance, claiming that they were ineffective in arresting burglars robbing his petrol station.

According to the embattled trader, the burglars recently raided his venture and walked away with Ksh300,000. Police, he lamented, were slow in responding to his alarms.

He thus concluded that the law enforcers were in cohorts with suspects to bring down his business among other establishments in the area.

"They come to my petrol station at any time, be it day or night but when we report we do not get any response," he stated.

The businessman argued that he already had over five OBs at the police station reporting different burglary incidents.

Furthermore, thieves were intentionally targeting his business for three years, but police were yet to make any arrests.

His sentiments were backed by other traders who lamented that the police were incompetent in protecting their property and livelihood.

"There are times we take the culprits to the police but after a few minutes the officer is given as low as Ksh1,000 and sets the suspect free," a trader stated.

The businessman further explained that some burglars used private vehicles to fuel at the petrol station before fleeing, and nothing is done.

On their part, Litein OCPD Peter Isanda defended the force, adding that investigations on the allegations had been concluded and the report forwarded to the police commissioner.

"We will even write to Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) so that these cases are investigated further and the culprits are brought to book," Isanda assured.

Another petrol station owner from Machakos County counted losses after burglars wearing police uniforms sneaked in and stole Ksh5,000. Suspects were captured on CCTV, tying the hand of the petrol station's employees.
