Migori MCAs allied with President William Ruto recounted how a mob stormed their hotel on Wednesday night, April 19, attacking four lawmakers having coffee.

Some jumped from the first floor in Migori as others hid inside a bar seeking refuge from the irate mob.

The lawmakers, majorly drawn from Azimio La Umoja, alleged they were targeted for their association with Uriri Member of Parliament (MP) Mark Nyamita, who welcomed President William Ruto during his Nyanza tour in March 2023.

According to the four, Samson Olima, Peter Mijungu, Norman Ogolla and Eunice Odii, a group of youths stormed the hotel and attacked North Kadem MCA Samson Olima along the stairs.

Olima stated that he managed to escape after he was beaten up, forcing him to leave his car behind as he ran for safety.

The three others heard the commotion from the hotel’s first-floor balcony where they were seated, and two of them, Peter Mijungu and Norman Ogolla, jumped from the balcony.

Eunice Ondii, who was left behind, reportedly hid at the hotel’s bar but was traced by the mob who threatened her.

Mijungu, who recorded a statement with the police, noted that the mob traced them after the lawmakers were embroiled in a confrontation with two other rival MCAs at the hotel.

“We told one of the MCAs that he did not have to greet us and he began making calls. After about 15 minutes, a gang of youths arrived and assaulted us,” he claimed with his colleagues accusing Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko of orchestrating the attack.

"We want security to figure out what the problem is." "There was a Sergeant-at-Arms who made an oral statement saying the plan came from the executive wing," MCA Ondii added.

Ayacko, however, distanced himself from the incident. During a press conference on Saturday, April 23, he explained that he was unaware of the attack and was being used as a scapegoat.

"I am not part of the plan to harm or punish anyone. They claim that I attacked them and that they saw my bodyguard among the youths who attacked them, but I have never done that,” he stated.

Earlier in March 2023, the MCAs were among politicians who alleged that they were targeted during a separate attack as they exited the Migori County assembly, for hosting President William Ruto during his official Nyanza tour.
