A woman arrested in Kitengela, Kajiado County, on Monday, April 24, for fatally stabbing her 2-year-old girl, confessed to the murder and further explained her motive.
Neighbours who recorded the woman killing her daughter argued that she was mentally unstable, owing to the fact that she committed the crime without fear of being apprehended and charged.
The woman later claimed that she was affected by her break up with the child's father.
Speaking to the press, the lady confessed that she attacked her baby because she hated herself and had suffered greatly with her child.
“I do not love myself and that is the reason why I decided to take the life of my daughter,” the lady stated.
A video shared online showed the lady repeatedly stabbing the young girl while reciting the alphabet. Reports indicated that the 24-year-old's woman's parents were away when the crime was committed.
In a statement to the police, the neighbours recorded that the lady locked herself in the house and started playing with the baby.
Suddenly, they heard her start breaking utensils in the house, and they rushed to the house to intervene.
They, however, could not break in, and they resorted to watching helplessly from the window as the lady stabbed the little child and reportedly ate some of her body parts. Nonetheless, they called the police and reported the matter, seeking their intervention.
The lady was rushed to Kitengela Sub-County Hospital as she fell unconscious after the incident, with reports indicating that she was overwhelmed with guilt.
Kitengela Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Benson Mutia commented that investigations would continue despite the confession and hoped she would record a statement on the same.
The woman will also be subjected to a mental test to ascertain whether she was in the right state while committing the act.
"It’s a bizarre incident. We will be interrogating her to ascertain the motive of the killing. We also want to know if the murder was premeditated," he revealed.
The incident is the second of such kind to happen in Kitengela within a week.
On Friday, April 21, a 22-year-old woman was brutally murdered inside a popular eatery in Kitengela in what was suspected to be a love triangle. The woman, a daughter of a senior police officer, immediately succumbed to the fatal injuries. Her lover, who was nearly lynched by an irritated mob, was arrested and detained by the police.
