Azimio la Umoja on Wednesday, April 26, earmarked four major roads in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) for the coalition leader Raila Odinga's procession during the return of mass action slated for Tuesday, May 2.

A notice dated Monday, April 24, and signed by Azimio Executive Council Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya indicated that the procession would pass through Moi Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue, Haile Selassie Avenue and Harambee Avenue.

The notice was addressed to the OCS Nairobi Central Police Station requesting for adequate police officers to guarantee security to the Azimio supporters as well as exercise crowd control.

"For the avoidance of doubt, this is not an application for permission as none is contemplated under Article 37 of the Constitution. We, therefore, request your office to deploy enough police officers to guarantee security to attendees," the statement read in part.

In a separate statement, National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi announced that Raila would return to the country from his Dubai trip on Friday, April 28.

Wandayi also urged his supporters to accord him a grand welcome upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Upon arrival, the procession would head to the People's Baraza at Kamukunji Grounds, Kibra Constituency, where the ODM party leader is scheduled to address a gathering.

"The Kibra people's Baraza will also set the stage for the peaceful mass action that is set to resume in Nairobi on May 2, 2023, as earlier announced.

"We appeal to all supporters of our quest for a just, fair and democratic nation that prioritises its citizens, to turn up in large numbers, welcome Raila Odinga home and attend the Kibra rally. We further appeal to everyone attending the twin events to maintain peace and order as we have done in the past," the statement read in part.

The return of the mass action was announced after the bipartisan team suspended the dialogue over a stalemate.

According to Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo, both parties failed to reach a consensus with Kenya Kwanza on removing MPs Adan Keynan (Eldas) and David Pkosing (Pokot South).

"Until then, we have hit a stalemate and choose to suspend these talks until such time as there may be consensus or position changes," Amollo stated.
