Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Wednesday, April 26, expressed regret over the chaos at the Jubilee Party Headquarters in Kilelleshwa that had affected a number of residents in the posh estate.
In response to a neighbour who had asked him to move his party's headquarters to another location, Uhuru indicated that the property was leased and did not belong to the party.
He added that the party's intention was not to cause a disturbance, noting that the fracas had been caused by those who staged a forceful takeover on Wednesday afternoon.
Uhuru asserted that he wished for peace within the party so the residents could continue enjoying peace.
Nonetheless, the former Head of State indicated that the government had a role in the fracas given the police lobbed teargas at the headquarters.
"I am a resident of this area. My grandchildren were coming and I had to tell the driver to take them away because of the teargas. We are asking the Jubilee party with a lot of respect given that you are the former President to move these offices," the resident pleaded.
"We did not come here because we wanted any trouble. I hear your pain because you are a neighbour who is now being disturbed by people you have no business with. I pray that the government and the police will also understand your pain," Uhuru responded.
The Kileleshwa resident made the request to Uhuru after a faction led by EALA MP Kanini Kega stormed the premises encouraging the police to intervene.
During the incident, the two factions in contention over party leadership engaged in running battles even as the police lobbed teargas at the groups.
The police left after the former President confronted them, asserting their presence was causing more tension.
Consequently, other reports indicated that the lease of the former ruling party was terminated following the clashes.
However, when Kenyans.co.ke reached out to the Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, he indicated they were still at the offices.
Uhuru's party moved its headquarters to Kileleshwa from Pangani on February 1 as part of their plans to revamp the party.
