President (Rtd.) Uhuru Kenyatta may be forced to refund Ksh78 million he was enjoying as his retirement benefits should a motion tabled in Parliament sail through.

A document obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed that the motion was tabled by Gatundu South  MP Gabriel Kagombe, who represents the former President's ancestral home, on Tuesday, May 2.

Kagombe wants the National Assembly to compel the government to recover the funds paid as retirement benefits for the former Head of State on grounds that he violated the terms.

"The immediate former President has continued to receive benefits despite violating clause 4 (d). Now, therefore, as custodians of the law and public resources, this House resolves that the National government, through relevant ministries and agencies recovers Ksh78,764,000 paid to Uhuru Kenyatta," the motion read in part.

The lawmaker also sought the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof Njunguna Ndung'u to terminate further payment of retirement benefits to the former President.

In the motion, Kagombe also demanded former Prime Minister Raila Odinga be compelled to refund money to the tune of Ksh388.8 million and his co-principal, Kalonzo Musyoka, to repay Ksh375.7 million for continually engaging in politics.

Kagombe's motion also demands that CS Ndung'u furnishes the National Assembly with data on payments made to the three politicians since their respective retirement dates.

Earlier, Uhuru was kicked out of his role as the Jubilee Party leader and replaced by former Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege in an acting capacity.

The announcement was made by East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega who claimed to be the former ruling party's Secretary-General.

Uhuru has been caught up in the crossfire between the Kenya Kwanza administration and the opposition led by Raila and is on the verge of losing the party that earned him the country's top seat.

On the other hand, Odinga and Kalonzo, who led the mass action protests, on May 2, claimed that their state security had been withdrawn.
