A resident from Juja, Kiambu County, on Monday, May 8, erected speed bumps along the Juja Farm Road, off Thika Superhighway, after a family lost three kids in a tragic accident.

The well-wisher noted that he used his money to erect the speed limiters and reduce the rate of road carnages in the area.

"I volunteered to erect several bumps on this road to limit the speed of the cars. I urge motorists to adhere to the speed limit to reduce the fatalities," he stated.

The resident was in the company of other individuals who aided him in fixing the bumps on the busy road as cars drove by, disrupting their efforts.

Notably, the makeshift bumps slowed the speed of vehicles plying the route, thus reducing the chances of fatalities.

"A few days ago a family lost three children and another victim from the same family was still in the ICU,"  he stated.

According to the Kenya Roads Act, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is mandated to erect bumps.

“No person or body may do any of the following things without the responsible Authority’s written permission or contrary to such permission erect, construct or lay, or establish any structure or other thing, on or over or below the surface of a road reserve or land in a building restricted area,” reads part of the Act.

On Saturday, May 6, four kids were knocked down by a car that veered off the road while walking by the roadside. Three succumbed to the injuries while the other was rushed to the hospital.

The mother was heartbroken upon receiving the news of her children's demise, pleading with the government to ensure justice.

Meanwhile, Data released in March by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicated that 1,072 people died in road accidents between January and March 2023.

To rid the road of unroadworthy vehicles, NTSA launched a crackdown on Monday, May 8, in response to a directive issued by the Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
