A family was overwhelmed with grief after losing three children in a road accident in Juja, Kiambu County, on Saturday, May 6.
The trio were among the four walking by the roadside when a car veered off the road and hit them. The fourth child incurred crucial injuries and was rushed to the hospital for first aid administration and admission.
“I can’t explain how they found themselves here and how the accident occurred. We used to talk freely all the time.
“If they want to call me, they call me, if they want to talk to their father they call him any time. They could call us any time, whether during the day or at night,” noted the mother of the four children.
She also revealed that she had recently spoken with her children before the accident.
The family urged good Samaritans to help them cater for the medical expenses of the fourth child admitted at Thika Level 5 ICU.
It also asked for help to cover the burial expenses of the three who passed away.
Additionally, the grief-stricken family, with police officers, visited and assessed the crime scene.
According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) January 2023 report, 1,072 people died in road accidents from January to March 2023.
362 were pedestrians, 184 were passengers, 302 were motorcyclists, 101 were pillion passengers, 104 were drivers, and 19 were pedal cyclists.
Nairobi was ranked as the county with the most dangerous road, followed by Kiambu County.
