Ex-Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu on Wednesday, May 10, revealed that former President Uhuru Kenyatta feared losing the Jubilee Party in the supremacy wrangles pitting Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni against EALA lawmaker Kanini Kega.
Speaking during an interview on Spice FM, the politician opined that Uhuru did not want to lose the party being that it was his brainchild.
On the other hand, he asserted that the former Head of State also feared working with President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza side.
According to Wambugu, who unsuccessfully defended his seat on a Jubilee ticket last year, Uhuru had not made peace with the fact that Ruto won in the August 2022 polls.
He added that the fallout between Uhuru and Ruto was big with the wrangles between the kieleweke and tanga tanga group turning personal.
"What is happening is an emotional refusal to accept the reality. We fought Kenya Kwanza very hard, sometimes to a very personal level and they won despite our efforts.
"First, there is that thing where he (Uhuru) feels that the party is his baby and second, there is that fear that they will go and work with Kenya Kwanza who I believe he still has a personal problem with," he stated.
Nonetheless, he stated that the party leader was wrong for siding with Kioni.
Wambugu was of the opinion that Uhuru should have maintained a neutral ground and mediated between the two factions.
He also indicated that the party leader needed to engage with the party's grassroots officials in dealing with the stalemate that has rocked the former ruling party in recent months.
On the other hand, he attributed the wrangles between the party's MPs and officials to a battle over the control of the party's direction.
He indicated that a number of the legislators were inclined towards working with Ruto while the party officials still wanted to be in the opposition.
The wrangles in Jubilee began after Kioni was ousted from office by Kega. This was after the faction allied to the government met with Ruto at State House on February 8.
Notably, the former President was also replaced as party leader with Nominated MP Sabina Chege. A move that was rubbished by the Kioni faction.
Consequently, Uhuru called for a National Delegates Conference (NDC) slated for May 22.
The same was suspended by Kega after resolutions by the National Executive Committee (NEC).
