Supreme Court Justice Isaac Lenaola was re-elected President of the International Association of Refugee and Migration Judges for a second term on Friday, May 12.
Lenaola won unopposed during the general elections held in the Netherlands at the International Association of Refugee and Migration biannual conference.
Lenaola was praised for exhuming professionalism, dedication and commitment to promoting the rights of refugees and migrants.
"His visionary leadership has helped the association to grow and establish itself as a critical force in promoting justice and fairness to vulnerable members of the society," the association stated.
"The re-election of Hon. Justice Lenaola is a clear indication of the trust and confidence that members of the International Association of Refugee and Migration Judges have in his leadership," it added.
Lenaola was first elected president of the global body in February 2020 in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Following his re-election, members of the global body tasked him with advocating for the rights of refugees worldwide.
Lenaola was also mandated to cooperate with different governments to find solutions to address the refugee crisis.
"We are confident that he will continue to steer the association in the right direction, promote international cooperation, and provide the necessary guidance in dealing with complex migration and refugee-related legal issues," the International Association of Refugee and Migration Judges stated.
The Association has over 400 members globally, comprising four Chapters - European, Americas, Asia-Pacific and Africa.
His re-election came a day after the Ministry of Interior in Kenya adopted a new Marshal Plan to address the looming crisis involving refugees in the country.
Among the proposal presented by the team included developing frameworks that would tap into their social-economical potential to empower and promote their self-reliance.
"It aims at enhancing access to effective registration, documentation, basic services such as education, healthcare, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), energy, jobs and livelihoods," Immigration Principal Secretary Julius Bitok stated.
