A 14-year-old girl travelling from Mombasa was reported missing from the Nairobi railway terminus after vanishing into thin air with an unknown man on May 9.

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, May 15, the minor who arrived at the terminus at 9:30 PM, was travelling to meet her father.

DCI stated that the girl had boarded the 3:00 PM Mombasa train to Nairobi but upon arrival, she was seen sneaking out of the station with an unknown man.

When her father arrived at the station to pick her up and noticed that she was missing, he attempted to call her but she did not answer her phone.

“According to the minor’s father, his daughter was travelling from Mombasa to Nairobi aboard the day’s 3:00 PM train when she disappeared upon arrival in Nairobi later that night.

“Unbeknownst to the distraught father, the adolescent girl arrived at the Nairobi town terminus at around 9:30 PM and sneaked out of the station,” the statement read in part.

DCI revealed that the 14-year-old was taken to Riruta Satellite in Dagoreti by the man and was defiled.

The following day, the directorate stated that the minor was handed over to another man who was also believed to have defiled the girl.

The statement noted that the man who left the station with the minor was later identified and was in police custody.

Two other suspects were also apprehended in connection to the case including a woman who was suspected to have been involved in the disappearance of the girl.

“Three suspects two men and a woman are in custody following the disappearance of a 14-year old girl on May 9, 2023, at the Nairobi railways terminus.

“A total of three suspects have so far been arrested in relation to the incident, including a woman who is believed to have assisted in harbouring the minor," DCI added.
