Azimio la Umoja coalition leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday, May 16, warned of mass firing within President William Ruto's administration following the sacking of Health Principal Secretary Josephine Mburu.
Speaking at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Nairobi, Raila noted that the government should not spare anyone in cleaning up the mess at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).
He, however, noted that the opposition had for a long time called on the government to crack the whip on those responsible for the massive loss of public funds within the crucial authority.
"The government is reacting to a major issue. This is not the only matter we have in KEMSA. Within a short period of time, you will see a haemorrhage in this government.
Raila claimed Ruto ruled his administration with an iron fist and did not allow his Cabinet to delegate roles within their ministries.
"A government should be run as a government, you have ministers who are charged with responsibilities. Why are we not seeing ministers delegating as the president is the one coming up with key policies," he wondered.
"A major statement should come from a minister in his ministry. If there's a scandal in health, it should come from the minister. It raises more questions than answers in the so-called surgery in the ministry," he added.
Further, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader lifted the lid on the progress made in the bipartisan talks - indicating that a meeting was slated for the third week of May to resume the discussions.
He reiterated that solutions for their grievances ought to be found within 30 days or else they would go back to the streets.
Further, the former prime minister appealed to Kenyans to reject the Finance Bill 2023 - demanding a major reconstitution of the proposed law.
"We appeal to all Kenyans to participate actively in the process of validation and express themselves loudly and clearly that they cannot take any more burden. We equally encourage our people to lobby our elected leaders to stand with the people on this matter.
"We make it clear that if this Bill is railroaded through Parliament, Kenya Kwanza must prepare that we will have no option but to mobilize citizens around the country to fight for themselves. We will have no option but to mobilize all the social sectors and take all the necessary political actions to stop this blow and burden," Raila noted.
Former PS Mburu was Ruto's first casualty in his government, five months after she assumed office.
