Kenyans urged Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to act swiftly before accidents claim more lives.

They argued that Murkomen should liaise with other stakeholders and dual the road to curb tragedies from occurring in the future.

"Transport CS, get a hold of the sector and seal all the loopholes on the road. We can not continue to lose lives daily," one concerned citizen suggested.

"Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen kindly vote for the dualling of these major roads... Nairobi-Mombasa, Nairobi-Nakuru- Malaba, Thika-Garissa, Narok-MaiMahiu to Kisumu, etc," another added.

Others called upon the CS to enforce speed control measures to ensure vehicles speed under 80 kilometres per hour.

Notably, in 2020 the government set aside Ksh13 billion to revamp the Maai Mahiu-Suswa road after it was affected by the floods.

Murkomen announced a countrywide crackdown on all unroadworthy vehicles and introduced mandatory inspections to curb accidents.

"I directed  National Trasport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to heighten surveillance to ensure unroadworthy vehicles are not allowed on our roads," Murkomen announced.

The CS also revealed that the Mombasa-Malaba, Mombasa-Nairobi, and particularly Nairobi - Nakuru were the most dangerous roads in the country.

Data from NTSA indicated that at least 1,072 fatalities were recorded between January and March 2023.
