A teacher who warmed the hearts of Kenyans by mending the uniform of a student on Friday, May 19, was rewarded with a three-day trip to Mombasa via air travel.

The teacher, Joyce Sempela Malit, was accompanied by the student whose uniform she was pictured mending.

"The Day for Teacher Joyce Sempela Malit and her pupil to enjoy their much-deserved break is here. We hope this will encourage all of us to remain kind and ready to extend help to those who need it most," stated Expeditions Maasai Safaris CEO Pancras Karema.

The trip was fully paid for by Expeditions Maasai Safaris, a Nairobi-based travel company.

The duo was overwhelmed by the kind gesture from the tour company

"I can't hold my tears in.  The little girl surprised me with these as flowers. She's grateful for all the support she's gotten from all of you.  Thank you for putting a smile on her face. And to Expeditions Maasai Safaris she says thank you," the teacher stated when they received the offer.

When her photos went viral on May 9, Malit was praised for her kindness towards the young girl with many sending gifts her way including former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

Sonko bought a set of uniforms, and school shoes as well as cleared the pending fees of the eight-year-old girl after the story went viral.

"I just want to buy her five sets of school uniforms, rubber shoes, official school shoes, her food and school shopping for at least six months and clear any of her outstanding school fees," Sonko stated.

The Narok-based teacher was known for her generosity to help her pupils despite the tough economic state.

According to the teacher, the student's parents were nomads who lived and operated in the interior parts of Narok County forcing her to live with her grandmother three kilometres from the school.

"When the story went viral, I witnessed massive and overwhelming reactions and support from friends and people from all walks of life," she stated.

Other well-wishers also bought school supplies for the young girl to help her continue with her education.

To help the teacher mend more clothes for needy students, Olakira TV gifted her a sewing machine on Thursday, May 11.

She was described as an example of how teachers should relate with the students to encourage them in their journey to get an education.
