East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) lawmaker Kanini Kega, on Monday, May 22, announced that disciplinary action would be taken against former president Uhuru Kenyatta following his expulsion of ten members from the party.

Speaking during a press briefing, Kega noted that the disciplinary action would be guided by the party's internal dispute resolution committee after which a meeting by National Executive Council (NEC) would be convened.

Terming Uhuru's meeting as a mere 'political rally' the legislator noted that the party would constitute a proper National Delegates Convention (NDC) which would be held no later than July 15, 2023.

"The party will not shy from taking further disciplinary action on our party leader in order to restore its dignity and retain its rightful place in the country. We will wait for the determination of the Internal committee on the dispute after which NEC will meet to execute its mandate relating to convening of the NDC."

"We expect that a proper NDC will be held no later than July 15, 2023," he indicated.

He expressed displeasure at Uhuru's action and questioned why he defied a legitimate organ by contravening the party constitution.

"It is unfortunate the former president has chosen to be on the wrong side of history by defying a legitimate decision of the party organ and ceased being a party leader on March 14, 2023.

"He has no power to call or chair meetings. Such impunity is unacceptable and taints the reputation of the Office of the Retired President," he noted.

He affirmed to the Jubilee members that their positions were still in effect as Uhuru's NDC meeting was not properly constituted according to Jubilee's regulations.

"The members remain in office notwithstanding the political pronouncements made in the said meeting. Further, you will recall that Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and Vice-chairperson David Murathe were found guilty in the decision ratified by NEC on May 19, 2023, effectively expelling them from the membership of the party," he pointed out.

During the NDC meeting convened at Ngong Racecourse, Uhuru kicked out ten errant members from the party over what he termed as disloyalty.

These included Jimmy Angweny, Joshua Kutuny, Mutava Musyimi, Kega, Boniface Kinoti Gatobu, Naomi Shaban and Nelson Dzuya.

Rachael Nyamaye, Advice Mundalo, Executive Director Wambui Gichuru and Joel Kibe were also axed

"Those who got the few positions Jubilee had to share are now telling us they will give the party direction. No, their job is to stand firm and defend Jubilee's manifesto or step aside and give us a chance to select replacements," Uhuru stated.
