"It's important to note that Kemboi won the same award in 2022 after beating all students while still in Form 3. We expect him to perform so well," Oliver explained.

The contest attracted over 4,000 students from Kenyan secondary schools. The main objective of the competition was to create an avenue for learners to showcase their skills and increase their confidence in mathematics.

The contest was divided into two categories, which were individual and team. In the individual category, students were given a set of problems to solve in a limited amount of time.

The top three students in each category were awarded prizes. In the team category, students were divided into teams of four and given a set of problems to solve together. The top three teams in each category were awarded prizes.

The overall winner of the individual category was Kemboi from the host School. He was awarded a scholarship to study in Australia at a university of his choice.

Winners in other categories were awarded full year’s school fees for the top student in every class. Other gifts included trophies to the best boys' school, best girls' school, best-mixed boarding school and best school overall.

The overall winner of the team category was Team A from Kapsabet Boys High School. They were awarded a cash prize.

The 2023 mathematics contest at Kapsabet High School provided an opportunity for students from all over Kenya to showcase their skills and increase their confidence in mathematics.

The event marked the 20th edition of the annual mathematics contest, and it was sponsored by Grace International Migration.

Kapsabet High School Mathematics Department was headed by Oliver Toroitich, a seasoned teacher who encouraged students to exchange ideas.
