Water Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, on Friday, May 26, appointed former headteacher of Kianyaga Boys, Julius K. Ndumbi, as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Irrigation Authority.
The former educationist will serve for three years, effective May 26, 2023.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 (1) (h) of the Irrigation Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation appoints Julius K. Ndumbi to be a member of the Board of Directors of the National Irrigation Authority," read part of the statement.
Notably, Ndumbi was the headteacher, while Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was a student at the school.
"Our no-nonsense Headteacher Julius Kano Ndumbi will be the Chief Guest flanked by all teachers who taught us, as well as members of the support staff who took care of us," Gachagua stated on March 6 while planning to revamp the school.
Gachagua was in the company of his former classmates as they reminisced on their life at 'Kalahari', nicknamed after the hot weather.
Meanwhile, the National Irrigation Authority is mandated to provide and coordinate sustainable development and management of irrigation services in Kenya.
Other functions include developing and improving irrigation infrastructure for national or public schemes and providing irrigation support services to private, medium and smallholder schemes.
It was established in August 2019 by the Irrigation Act, which stipulates the development, management, and regulation of irrigation, to support sustainable food security and socio-economic development in Kenya.
In January 2023, Gachagua reunited with the headteacher at his Harambee Annex office in Nairobi. The DP took his favourite teacher on tour and reminisced about his youthful days.
"I had an emotional reunion with my mentor last evening when he called on me at Harambee House Annex, Nairobi. I had the opportunity to thank him for the role he played in preparing me for leadership," the DP stated.
The DP joined the Kirinyaga-based school for his "O" and "A" levels between 1978 and 1983.
