"The car swerved a number of times before falling off the road. We were helpless. In fact, those of us who were less injured assisted our colleagues who were nursing seriously injured," a survivor explained.

The incident happened at around 11 am when the lorry lost control along a stretch. It was expected to ferry 100 people to the event's venue.

Kakamega County Police was yet to confirm the cause of the accident but believed that the driver may have been speeding.

"It is apparent that the driver of the lorry had won all the tenders for transport service provision. That is why he was rushing so that he could make several trips," a bullfighter explained.

Bullfighting Enthusiast

Shinyalu OCPD, Daniel Mokumbu identified the deceased as a 25-year-old young man who resides in Shinyalu and was a keen follower of bullfighting activities in the county.

In his statement, Mokumbu also warned residents against hooliganism during bullfighting sessions after a spike in accidents.

The bullfighting extravaganza was organised by the Shinyalu Bullfighting Association, which expressed sympathy for the victims and their families.

The association noted that the event was meant to promote the sport of bullfighting in the area promising to tighten security in future events.
