Siaya deputy governor, William Oduol, was on Wednesday, June 7, put on the spot for allegedly procuring a chair worth Ksh1 million.
The county's executive exposed the scandal through documents tabled to an ad-hoc committee appointed by the county assembly.
The committee was tasked with investigating grounds for Oduor’s impeachment, a motion tabled by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Monday, May 29.
It was reported that immediately after being sworn in, Orengo’s deputy ordered his office to be renovated and all furniture replaced.
The furniture replacement totalled Ksh11 million of taxpayer’s money. Siaya Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) voted to endorse Oduol's impeachment motion on Monday, May 29, a day after he was expelled from ODM.
Giving its reasons for expulsion, Siaya's ODM branch accused Oduol of working with the Kenya Kwanza government to sabotage his boss, James Orengo.
“The Siaya ODM committee has unanimously resolved that William Oduol be compelled to resign as the DG since he no longer subscribes to the ideals and aspirations of the party.
“This meeting also resolved he be expelled and his ODM membership is hereby revoked,” a statement from ODM read then.
After being expelled, East Asembo Ward MCA Gordon Onguru tabled a motion for Oduol's ouster.
He, however, reiterated his innocence while accusing Orengo of misusing county funds. On Friday, May 26, Oduol alleged that the county executive seized financial loopholes to loot public coffers.
"In one day, one junior staff is sent to the bank six to eight times, withdrawing Ksh950,000 each time.
"This is to circumvent the CBK requirement of going with documents when withdrawing Ksh1 million," he alleged.
