The Ol Jogi Conservancy in Laikipia County is one of the oldest and most exclusive ranches in Kenya.

Founded over 60 years ago, the 58,000-acre property has become a tourist destination for the elite in Kenya and across the globe.

According to the Conservancy's rate card, tourists are charged in groups of four with each individual expected to pay approximately Ksh450,000 per night.

The pricing also varies depending on the time of the year and the number of people in a group.

For instance, during the 2024 Christmas and New Year festivities, the conservancy indicates that it will charge approximately Ksh550,000 per night.

Some of the activities the guests of the conservancy participate in include canyon exploring, game drives, and bush walks among others.

The Conservancy also has a rhino orphanage and a veterinary clinic where guests can frequently participate in their wildlife conservation programmes.

"The wildlife viewing tunnel, which starts inside the house and brings you a few feet away from the animals at the watering hole, is a key feature which in itself would be enough to make you want to visit,"  read the conservancy's directorate.

Other facilities on the property include a steam room, swimming pool, and sauna.

Helicopter excursions, quad bikes, abseiling and stargazing with experienced astronomers are also offered to the guests upon special requests.

In matching its exclusivity, guests also opt for a private chef who tailor-makes the menu in line with the preference of the guests.

Apart from tourism, the property has also been used by Hollywood for filmmaking. Some of the movies filmed on the property include the 1985 romantic movie - Out of Africa.

Ownership
Details of the conservancy's ownership were made public during a divorce battle between billionaire Alec Wildenstein and his ex-wife, Jocelyn. The vast property was owned by the Wildenstein family.

When Alec died in 2008, the property was inherited by his brother Guy Wildenstein. Reports estimate that the Wildenstein family's net worth rises to the tune of Ksh1 trillion.

It is not known whether the French family sold the ranch to another investor.
