The late Chewani MCA Hamisi Iddi Deye rose from being a security officer to becoming a trusted United Democratic Alliance (UDA) lawmaker in Tana River County.

Deye, who died in a tragic car accident along Malindi-Garsen Road on Saturday, June 17, was at some point attached to Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana as a security officer before quitting to join regional politics.

Deye was part of the Godhana security detail and served in that position till June 2022 when he resigned to seek an elective post. The deceased later won the Chewani Ward seat in the August 2022 General Election.

"Hamisi Iddi, until last year June, was attached to my boss Dhadho Godhana as part of his security detail.

"This young soul resigned and shocked us when he declared his political ambition. He won the MCA seat (Chewani Ward, Tana River County) and in less than 9 months, the great son of Pokomo is no more," his colleague former John Juma recalled.

Governor Godhana, in his tribute, also appreciated the deceased's role in his security team praising him as a great leader.

"Tana has lost a great son. Hamisi was among the young leaders in Tana River. He would have played a big role in shaping the destiny of this county in the future," he stated.

UDA Pointman

Until his death, Deye was the minority leader in the County Assembly of Tana River. He was tasked with spearheading reforms and policies supporting President William Ruto's bottom up economic transformation agenda.

Johnson Muthama, the former UDA party chairperson, described Deye as a leader who had demonstrated dedication and loyalty to the ruling party.

"His dedication and commendable leadership traits will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him," Muthama wrote.

UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala, on the other hand, eulogised the deceased MCA as a leader who had a guaranteed future in shaping the party's agenda in Tana River County.

"The Party and the People of Chewani Ward have lost a focused and dedicated leader who put the interests of his people first.

"During this moment of grief, we pray for the soul of the departed, his family, and the people of Chewani Ward," the UDA party mourned the deceased.
