In response to growing speculation on his whereabouts after skipping the Azimio rally held at Kamukunji grounds on Tuesday, June 28, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday, June 29, revealed that he was in the United Kingdom on a trip.
In a statement, Kalonzo indicated that he met officials from the Anglican Church in London led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
The former Vice President revealed that the meeting centred around the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
He referenced Mathew 5:9, a bible verse addressing a beatitude on peacemakers, while expressing his personal reflection on the ongoing conflict.
"We spent time discussing a number of matters of international importance particularly on African affairs including the South Sudan conflict together with the Archbishop of Canterbury's Special Representative on the conflict in Sub-Saharan Africa, Bishop Precious Okomu.
"It is our collective prayer that everlasting peace will prevail in our region," he stated.
Among those present at the meeting was Sammy Wainaina, the former Provost of All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi.
During the London trip, Kalonzo was also accompanied by his son, Kennedy Musyoka, who is also an East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) lawmaker.
However, the Azimio principal did not disclose their exact date of departure. Their return date was also a mystery.
Kalonzo was missing from the Kamukunji rally where former Prime Minister Raila Odinga announced new measures against President William Ruto.
During the event, Kalonzo's absence was acknowledged, with allies indicating that he was not available. However, Wiper Party members expressed support for the directive issued by Raila.
Some of the measures announced by Azimio included boycotting taxes, civil disobedience and carpooling as a means to protest against the Finance Act of 2023 which introduced a raft of unpopular taxes.
