Police officers based in Kitengela, on Tuesday, July 4, raided the home of Kitui East Member of Parliament, Nimrod Mbai, after he assaulted a Kenya Power engineer.
In an exercise conducted by Kenya Power officials, equipment belonging to the utility firm was recovered from the home under construction. Some of the items recovered included cables and a meter box.
At the time of the raid, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MP was away from his home, with reports indicating that he had returned to Nairobi.
However, police arrested two of the MP's aides, given that Kenya Power established that the electricity was illegally connected.
Peter Kathusia, an officer from the utility firm, reiterated the company's commitment to ensuring safety. This came after the firm conducted excavations to recover the cables that had been illegally installed in the ground.
"We will also pull down the entire power line. Such an illegal power line amounts to a time bomb for the occupants of the house," the official stated.
On the other hand, the Isinya Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, Benjamin Ndebai, revealed that the assaulted Kenya Power engineer had filed a report at their station.
The MP also faces investigations over the misuse of his firearm as he was filmed attempting to reach for his gun.
Meanwhile, pressure is mounting on the police to arrest the legislator, with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) among the stakeholders calling for the revocation of his gun.
"This unwarranted intimidation, harassment, and vicious assault towards the engineer in the course of his duty is an unacceptable affront to the whole engineering fraternity and, in particular, to the esteemed members of the Institution of Engineers,” read the statement in part
Mbai was yet to issue a response over the Tuesday, July 4, raid.
In the viral clip circulated widely, the MP was captured alleging that removing poles and cables from his home was illegal and contrary to President William Ruto's directive.
"President William Ruto ordered when you find electric power already installed; no one is allowed to remove the installed wires. All you need to do is install a metre," the MP complained.
