Kenya Set to Send Nurses to Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore on Tuesday, July 11 announced it will hire nurses to send to Saudi Arabia in a new labour deal.

The CS in a statement stated that the government has entered a deal with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to enhance safe, regular, and productive labour migration between the two countries.

"The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection requests for expression of interest from qualified Kenyans for employment in Saudi Arabia as Nursing and Midwifery professionals," read part of the statement.

The nurses will be paid Saudi Riyal 4700 per month, an equivalent of Kshs180,500 at the current prevailing exchange rate.

Other perks will include round-trip air tickets, 35 paid vacation days, housing, meals, insurance, and transport.

Additionally, the nurses are entitled to overtime in accordance with Saudi Arabia Labour Laws.

According to the Ministry of Health, the Saudi government will also provide transport, uniform, and pay overtime. The nurses will be expected to work for 48 hours per week.

Successful applicants will be handed a one-year renewable contract.

Some of the requirements for the nurses include being a Kenyan citizen, holding a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Sciences or Midwifery, being a registered and licensed member of the Nursing Council of Kenya, and being in possession of a valid Police Clearance certificate.

Other qualifications include a minimum of two years of nursing or midwifery experience in a hospital setting, or relevant post-registration experience, accompanied by a current work experience letter. Applicants are also required to have no more than three months of out-of-practice periods. 

Candidates are also required to be proficient in english, to be in good physical heath and possess a valid Kenyan passport.

Notably, the candidates can register as jobseekers through the National Employment Authority (NEA) on neaims.go.ke.
