The wife of Emanze Jilani, a driver arrested alongside digital strategist Pauline Njoroge, has called out the police department for their error while arresting her husband.

Speaking outside Watamu Police Station on Monday, July 24, Fatuma Abdallah maintained that her husband was innocent and was just a hired driver.

Jilani was arrested alongside Pauline and her colleague Jane Nduta when his Toyota Hiace silver was intercepted by police officers in Watamu, Kilifi County.

“My husband is innocent. All he did was carry the visitors who were touring the region,” she complained while demanding for his release.

She pleaded with police officers to release her husband noting that he was caught in the line of duty and was unaware of what Pauline and her colleague were up to.

“He has children at home who need to go to school and be provided with basic needs,” a tearful Fatuma pleaded.

Pauline was produced at Malindi Law Courts at 2:00 pm on Monday despite her lawyers, Lempaa Soyinka and Ndegwa Njiru, camping at the premises from 9:00 am.

"We went to Malindi Law Courts in the morning waiting for our client to appear but she was not produced.

“Some people who were held in the same cell as her have already been produced in court and charges pressed,” Njiru lamented at the time.

The three were accused of being in possession of 60 tablets believed to be narcotics substances.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Soyinka had earlier dismissed the charges noting that they were trumped up and she was being persecuted for political reasons.

He further indicated that the government had for quite some time been trailing Pauline. Lempaa further dismissed claims that Pauline had been targetted for making posts critical to the government.
