President William Ruto, on Tuesday, July 25 extended an olive branch to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for one on one talks.

In a statement on his official social media pages, Ruto indicated that he was ready to engage with the opposition leader whenever the ODM party boss was ready for talks.

He, however, indicated that he was out of the country for an official event in Tanzania and would engage Raila upon return.

"My friend Raila Odinga, I am off to Tanzania for a human capital meeting to harmonise the expansion of employment opportunities in our continent.

"I will be back tomorrow evening, and as you have always known, am available to meet one on one with you anytime at your convenience," he stated.

Raila was yet to respond to the offer at the time of publication.

The president made the remarks hours after Raila revealed how mediation talks set to be led by President Samia Suluhu collapsed.

Raila had alleged that Ruto invited Suluhu to Kenya but ended up frustrating her by delaying the meeting, forcing the Tanzanian head of state to fly back home.

The ODM boss maintained that his faction was always ready to engage with Ruto's Kenya Kwanza. However, he claimed that Ruto's team lacked goodwill in addressing the issues raised.

In as much as Ruto extended an olive branch to Raila, some analysts may perceive the message as a public troll, insinuating that he doesn't need a third party to agree to a truce with the opposition leader.

Notably, the international community and religious groups have been pushing for a truce between the duo to avert the continuation of the demonstrations which has seen a number of Kenyans lose their lives with others hospitalised.

Raila's faction led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka met with the diplomats on Saturday, July 22.

The meeting at Kalonzo's residence took place days after the envoys were hosted by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where it was indicated that the government was ready to engage with the opposition on constructive talks.
