A Member of County Assembly (MCA) from Siaya County is fighting for his life at a hospital in Kisumu after being stabbed five times on Saturday.
Brian Anyango who represents South Gem encountered the unfortunate incident while attending a funeral service in his Ward.
During the funeral, the MCA faced tough opposition and was heckled throughout his speech by his constituents. The attendees continuously booed him as he tried to condole with the bereaved family.
The politician had been at loggerheads with his constituents for his dalliance with Kenya Kwanza politicians. Over the course of this year, he has met with Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo.
According to Gem Sub-County Police Commander Cecilia Kemboi, the MCA, was attacked multiple times using a sharp object.
The incident was immediately reported to Akala Police Station, and he was urgently rushed to Kisumu County for emergency medical treatment.
As per the reports, amidst the chaotic scene of booing and heckling, one of the mourners suddenly rushed to the stage and forcefully took away the microphone from Anyango.
In the ensuing commotion, a group of unidentified individuals descended on the politician, subjecting him to a vicious and life-threatening assault. Fortunately, he narrowly escaped death, but the severity of the attack left him in critical condition.
Speaking at the hospital after visiting the MCA, Gem Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo alleged the goons were out to kill the politician.
The MP vowed to take decisive steps to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in his county.
Elisha Odhiambo, who has reiterated his support for the Kenya Kwanza government, further claimed that the goons responsible for the attack were influenced and mobilized by a politician from Kisumu County.
The MCA, elected as an independent candidate has been enduring tough political times for his political allegiances. The Luo Nyanza region has traditionally voted for opposition leader Raila Odinga to the last man.
His recent meeting with Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen and Eliud Owalo drew criticism from local leaders.
In defence of his actions, the MCA explained that his engagement with the government officials was aimed at fostering development in Siaya County.
